Gary and Blanche were each born and raised on a tobacco farm. Gary went on to graduate from OAC in Guelph and Blanche graduated and worked as a medical laboratory technologist.

Farming is part of our genetics, so we went on to grow tobacco for many years. Because of the societal changes we recognized that the time had come to make a change. The transition to growing and marketing fresh produce took many years to establish. Direct marketing, ie Farmers’ Markets was a very rewarding part of the business. The pride of bringing a quality product to the consumer is rewarding and to experience the appreciation from your customers is gratifying. The selling experience is good but the lasting friendships that have formed are priceless. Gary and Blanche have transitioned the produce business to the next generation and have always had the desire to raise beef cattle and have a small cow/calf operation. And so TGBC came to be.

Our cows are Red Limousin, with the beef cattle being Red Limousin or a cross with Black Angus. Matthew Heleniak has been a mentor to help us attain a high standard of quality beef production. TGBC works hard to use sustainable and environmentally responsible practices. Culled vegetables from produce production are used to minimize waste and as part of a well balanced diet.

Partnering with Norwich Feeds has given us the benefit of Shur Gain’s research and technology. We are able to take what is fed on farm and match it with high quality minerals and supplements to ensure that the nutritional needs of our cattle are met.

The beef cattle are purchased and slaughtered through NorPac, who have the knowledge, the abbatoir and the meat inspectors to ensure a top notch end product.

We work with a licensed veterinarian who addresses herd health issues.
